Things I'm Excited About

Here are the top five things that I'm excited/obsessing about/ =)

1. Harry Potter And the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Yes, I saw the first part 5+ times -- in theaters (only once on DVD). Yes, I am seeing this one at midnight. Yes, I am working ten hour shifts on both Thursday AND Friday. Yes, I realize I'm crazy. To help feed your HP fever (you know you have it), here are some featurettes detailing different parts of the movie:

The Story of Severus Snape

Harry v. Voldemort

The Horcruxes

Gringott's and Goblins

Where We Left Off (In case you aren't crazy like me)

2. My friend Veronica is having her baby today!! She hasn't found out what she is having, so I'm excited to see how that turns out. I think it's a girl, but a lot of her friends on Facebook think it's a boy. We'll see!

3. Rocky Mountain High. I'm working 5 10 hour days this week to make up for the fact that I'm going to Colorado! One of these days, J and I will actually take a vacation on our own, but in the meantime, I enjoy our trips with the youth group. Last year we went to West Virginia, this year Colorado, and we're discussing an international trip in a few summers. I haven't been to Colorado since I was about 9 or 10, and I've never been to the conference we're going to, so it'll be exciting.

4. I'm a guest post! Remember my last post when I talked about camp? One of the ladies I met on Facebook (who went a few decades before I did) has a blog. I made a comment on her blog the other day and she turned it into a guest post! Yay for me! You can read it here.

The Time Traveler's Wife

I have been looking forward to this movie since I found out they were turning the book into a movie about a year and a half ago. (Release was supposed to be last summer, but they had to reshoot some things and his head had been shaved or something for another movie, so they had to push it back.) From the previews, it looked wonderful, but I wad worried that I would be disappointed, which happens a LOT when you love a book so much, like I did. This book is EASILY one of my top five.

I am pleased to report that I was not disappointed.

Firstly, the chemistry between Bana and Rachel McAdams was amazing. They were perfect together. Overall, casting was perfect and exactly how I had pictured just about everything.

The writers did a good job of picking things to keep and things to throw out, and how to change some things to make it more appealing for the screen. The latter was my biggest concern; so much of the novel is told through narration of Henry and Clare, so I was worried about how everything would be conveyed without that insight into the characters' POV. This is something else I owe to the amazing casting. McAdams, once again, is able to convince us that she is head-over-heels in love and delivers a heart-breaking portrayal of a woman who is always waiting for her husband as he disappears for hours, days, even weeks on end.

The aspect of the time traveling was well-done as well. I had hoped it wouldn't be too confusing for the average person who hadn't read the book to follow, but it was very well done. In fact, I even think it was easier to follow than the book.

I especially liked the ending. I think I might even like it better than the book. But I won't tell you why or what happens because I'm not that cruel. All I know is that you should go see it. Now.

I'm Here

I swear, these past few weeks have been incredibly jam packed. I've often gone from one job to another to another and I would be lying if I said it wasn't getting old. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for having money coming in. It would just be nice to have one steady job instead of a whole bunch of little jobs.

J and I are going to see Half Blood Prince tonight at 12:01 and I'm excited! I just finished rereading books 6 and 7 and I'm watching movie 4 now. =)

I should have time for a full update on Thrusday. I'll get back to you then!

Movies from Books I'm Excited About

A lot of people don't like movie adaptations of books, because either the book is ruined or it ruins their perspective of the whole book... But I actually like movie adaptations of books. Yes, some of them are TERRIBLE, but I like seeing how other people interpreted stuff. So here are the movies I'm excited about:

The first trailer for the newest Twilight book was released last night:

It comes out November 9.

Then there's the new Harry Potter flick, which I hope and pray will be better than the 5th. I'm interested to see how the 7th (and 8th??) films will turn out, considering some of the details they've left out in these movies that come into play now. Almost makes me wish they had waited until all 7 books were out before making them. Oh, well. The 6th one looks AMAZING. This first one must be old because at the end it says "November," but WB pushed the release date back to July and released Twilight in November instead.

By the way, I just realized that the movie is rated PG... interesting, considering how dark and scary the book is... I hope that means stuff wasn't sacrificed.

My Sister's Keeper: (Notice a theme here at all??)

There is no trailer, but I can't wait for the movie adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife on August 14.

AND I JUST SAW that The Lovely Bones is being made into a movie, set for release in December.

Apparently, Emily Giffin sold her movie rights to her books Something Borrowed to Drew Barrymore's and Reese Witherspoon's production companies and wants Patrick Dempsey to play Dex. I don't think I like this idea.

Enchanted, Santa Claus, and interviews

Jerome and I saw Enchanted last night and it was worth every penny. (well, we got in on free passes, but had we paid $7.75 for our tickets it would have been worth the admission.) I am in LOVE with that movie and its soundtrack. Stephen Schwartz, who did the music to Wicked teamed up with Alan Menken to do it (they also teamed for The Little Mermaid). AMAZING. FANTASTIC. ANd every other word you can think of that mean "great." It's not your typical Disney princess movie (obviously), and there's humor in it for everyone to enjoy. PLUS, Idina Menzel is in it (even though not a whole lot) which right there makes it awesome (too bad she doesn't sing...)

I just finished reading The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guinn. It was FANTASTIC. It was simply written and he took every aspect of the St. Nick/Father CHristmas/Santa Claus myths and explained where they came from. Whether it's completely true or not I'm not sure, but it was definitely wonderful story.

I had my interview with Brooke for the summer today. She's so awesome, really interested in hearing our ideas about how to make camp better not only for the girls but for the staff as well. I lost it a little when she asked me what advice I would give new staff members; I said make the girls feel at home and like they are loved and more than welcome because that is what really drew me in 15 (!!!) years ago. Camp has been kind to me and really helped me grow into who I am today and I'm sad that that chapter of my life is coming to a close. But I'm pretty much guaranteed to get my position (duh, who else would they hire?).

This weekend is a busy one... Sitting tomorrow, rehearsal Sat. morning, camp sleepover on Saturday, and performance on Sunday. Not to mention Christmas Eve/Day next week. Merry Christmas!!<
